As of the 12th April 2021, 1st Hatfield Peverel returns to an AMBER readiness level.
This level allows us to restart to face-to-face scouting and your child’s section leader will provide information on the activities being run within their section.
As before, members with COVID-19 symptoms, or members who have been in contact with someone who has had COVID symptoms within the last two weeks, should not attend any face-to-face activity, and should follow government guidelines on self-isolation and testing.
Young people who are shielding or are in another vulnerable group might not be able to return to face-to-face activities at this stage. If your child is shielding or is in another vulnerable group, please contact your section leader directly so you can chat through options.
We are also aware that some young people, including those with additional needs, might need reasonable adjustments putting in place to support a return to face-to-face Scouting – again, your section leader will be happy to discuss this with you.
Arrival and departure arrangements
The Beaver and Scout Sections, due to their size, will be split in two and you will receive arrival times for your child via email from the Section Leader. Cubs and Explorers will meet as a whole. Arrival will be the same for all, you are required to queue behind the lines in front of the building and wait to be called forward to the hand sanitisation station (at the back gated entrance), you should remain socially distanced while queuing. Once at the station, your child will be taken into the meeting and you should leave the premises via the public footpath in the car park. Pick up will follow the same routine where you will queue in front of the building and wait to be called forward for your child.
Hand sanitisation, hygiene and personal protective equipment
All attendees (including leaders) are required to wash their hands with soap and water on entry to the premises. Hand sanitiser will be used as required during the meeting and on exit from the meeting.
Leaders, Explorers and Scouts are required to carry a mask and will need to wear it when entering the building to use the toilets. Masks will not be worn while outside however, if we are unable to maintain a two metre social distance masks will be required.
Social distancing
A social distance of two metres is to be maintained throughout the meeting. This is also required when dropping off to a meeting and picking up.
Other measures in place
Our Risk Assessment can be found on our website at https://hpscouts.org. If you have any queries regarding the risk assessment, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
We have taken the decision to hold meetings outside during the summer term, programmes may be subject to short notice change due to the weather. We ask that you remain flexible and be prepared to move online for meetings if required.
Permission to attend
An event for all meetings will be set up within Online Scout Manager (OSM) where you are required to register the attendance of your child for every meeting. In registering attendance, you will also be confirming that you understand the measures that we have in place and that you are happy for your child to attend the meeting.
We are looking forward to getting outdoor activities back up and running again, so we can gain more skills and have more fun together. Please do not hesitate to get in touch with your Section Leader if you have any questions or concerns.

Taking things a step at a time: a phased return
In line with government-approved Youth Sector Guidance, we expect to see a phased approach to returning to
face-to-face Scout meetings and activities. This is broken down by four levels:
- Red, for when the rate of infection remains consistent or growing
- Amber, for when the rate of infection is reducing consistently
- Yellow, for when there are very few cases in the population and a full track and trace system is operational
- Green, for when there are no new cases or there is a vaccine readily available.

As soon we are able to meet the requirements for each level, in conjunction with Scouts UKHQ.
[/fusion_toggle][fusion_toggle title=”If operating at Amber will members be able to access the bathroom within the Hut?” open=”no” class=”” id=””]
Only one child will be able to access the toilets at a time. Children must be strongly encouraged to use the bathroom before attending a session so as to reduce or avoid the need to use them at the hut if at all possible.
[/fusion_toggle][fusion_toggle title=”Will there be somewhere to wash hands?” open=”no” class=”” id=””]
We have invested in an outdoor sink where members will be able to wash there hands on arrival, exit and anytime during a session should they require without the need to enter the building.
[/fusion_toggle][fusion_toggle title=”Who decides when to move to the next level?” open=”no” class=”” id=””]
The national readiness level is defined by Scouts UKHQ following government guidance. Once approved at a national level we will then review our risk assessments to ensure we are compliant with all new rules and restrictions required. Once our changes have been approved we will look to move to the next level.

We hope for good weather but should their be bad weather in advance the leadership team will make a decision based on the safety and the activity planned. If required the outdoor activities will be cancelled or postponed and the leaders will inform those attending.
[/fusion_toggle][fusion_toggle title=”How will you control numbers?” open=”no” class=”” id=””]
Attendance to sessions at the hut will be by invite & acceptance only. If you are not scheduled to partake in a session at the hut we ask that you do not attend, should you arrive unannounced you will be asked to leave.
[/fusion_toggle][fusion_toggle title=”Is it ok to attend if family members have symptoms?” open=”no” class=”” id=””]
If you or a member of your family within the same household have shown symptoms of Covid-19 within the last 14 days or are currently isolating we ask that you do not attend sessions at the hut. If you have been scheduled to attend please inform the section leader as soon as possible as we may be able to offer the space to another member.
[/fusion_toggle][fusion_toggle title=”What happens if someone develops symptoms during a session?” open=”no” class=”” id=””]
If a child becomes unwell during a session, covid-19 or otherwise, the parent will be contacted and asked to collect their child.
[/fusion_toggle][fusion_toggle title=”Will there be any shelter outside?” open=”no” class=”” id=””]
Whilst we cannot use the hall we have invested in a number of pop-up gazebos that can be used to provide quick shelter should it be required.
[/fusion_toggle][fusion_toggle title=”Should we bring anything with us?” open=”no” class=”” id=””]
We will not be able to provide snacks or drinks during sessions and therefore recommend that a children bring a water bottle with them. As sessions will be outside please dress appropriately (coat etc).
Please do not bring items that are not needed for the session such as school bags etc as there will be nowhere for these to be stored.

We aim to keep new rules to a minimum but to ensure safety some new rules will be required such as maintaining social distancing during a session.
[/fusion_toggle][fusion_toggle title=”What will happen if rules are not followed?” open=”no” class=”” id=””]
We hope that all everyone will understand why additional rules are in place and that everyone follows the rules. Minor infractions will be dealt with in the normal way by leaders, however repetitive breaking of rules such as social distancing or safety instructions may result in requests for children to be collected early or being prevented from attending future sessions until rules have been relaxed.
